This article describes how to remove (uninstall) a McAfee Consumer product from a PC running Windows using the standard Windows removal steps and the McAfee MCPR tool.

Solution
IMPORTANT: If your McAfee product came pre-installed on your PC:
  • Activate your McAfee subscription before you attempt to remove your product.
    This is so that you keep your right to use the product (license) without having to buy a new subscription.
  • To activate the McAfee software that came pre-installed, see TS102477.
Step 1: Remove using Windows

The standard Windows removal method is the best way to uninstall your McAfee product(s).
Click the link for your version of Windows. You will go to Microsoft.com.
Follow Microsoft's removal steps:
If removal succeeds, your McAfee products are now removed from your PC.
IMPORTANT: Your PC will no longer be protected from viruses and malware. Ensure that you reinstall your security software as soon as possible to restore protection.
If removal fails using the standard Windows removal method, go to Step 2.
Step 2: Download and run the McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool (MCPR)
You should only use the MCPR tool if the Windows removal methods shown above do not work.
IMPORTANT:
  • Always download a new copy of MCPR before each use.
    This ensures that you have the latest version, and that newer McAfee products can be successfully recognized.
  • MCPR will clean up only the components needed for reinstallation. It is not designed to clean up 100% of components.
  • Completing this step will require a restart.
Before you start:
  • Bookmark or favorite this article so that you can easily get back to it.
  • Save all open files.
  • Close all programs.
  1. Download the MCPR tool.
  2. Double-click MCPR.exe.
  3. If you see a security warning:
    Click Yes, Continue, or Run (depending on your version of Windows):
  4. At the McAfee Software Removal screen:
    1. Click Next.
    2. Click Agree to accept the End User License Agreement (EULA).
  5. At the Security Validation screen:
    1. Type the characters exactly as shown on your screen (validation is case-sensitive).
    2. Click Next. This step prevents the accidental use of MCPR.
  6. When the process is complete, you will see one of the following messages. Click the one that you see.

  1. Go to http://home.mcafee.com.
  2. Click My Account.
  3. Sign In using your McAfee user account email and password.
  4. On the My Account page:
    1. Select the tab for the PC that you want to deactivate.
    2. Click Deactivate in the details section of the selected PC.
